The next recipes are easy side dishes or things that give your dishes that little bit extra. They are also perfect to give away as birthday or “thank you” present.
I really like to eat spareribs on the barbecue. An advantage is that you can eat them on so many different ways. You can eat it with garlic butter, spicy, sweet, etc. Another way is to eat them with mustard butter. It’s easy and fast to make.
What do you need? 1 onion – 1 Tblsp. (olive) oil – 2 Tblsp. Mustard – 1 ts. Sugar – cayennepepper – salt – 250 grams soft butter (just put it in the microwave for 10 seconds, but the best way is take it out of the fridge 30 minutes before you start making it).
What do you do?Cut the onions very small. Heat the oil and add the onions. Fry them, but don’t burn them. That’s what we call “suer”. Sprinklethe sugar on the onions and let them caramelize. Mix the caramelized onions with mustard, cayenne pepper and salt. Let the mixture cool down.Mix it with the soft butter. Make a roll and wrap it in butterpaper. You can keep it in the fridge.
It’s perfect to serve it with some spareribs or steak on the barbecue. Let the butter melt on top of your steak or spareribs. Delicious. And you can keep it for very long time in your fridge.
This is probably one of the easiest things to make. It’s a perfect idea for a present. Just buy a nice little bag or jar and fill it with your homemade pepper salt.
What do you need? 100 grams of sea salt (the best and also the most expensive -is “fleur the sel”), 6 dried red peppers (the more peppers you add, the spicier it will be), some grains of rice.
What do you do? Put the sea salt and the peppers in a blender. Mix it and put it together with some grains of rice in a jar. It’s ready – how easy can it be?
Olive oil with garlic and ”Herbes de Provence”
This oil is perfect as a dressing for salads or as dipping sauce with roasted bread.
What do you need? some nice bottles
for every bottle: enough olive oil to fill it, 1 clove of garlic, fresh herbs for example 4 rosemary sprigs, 4 thyme sprigs, a handful of basil, some bay leaves and some oregano.
What do you do? Put the herbs in the bottles and fill the bottles with olive oil. All the herbs need to be covered with olive oil. Take the clove of garlic, clean it and just crush it with the flat side of your knife. Put the clove in the oil. Close your bottle and wait at least one week. The longer you wait, the more taste the oil will have.
