I have a question for you. It’s a he, he’s born on 27th of may 1975, he grew up in Clavering (Essex) and his second name is Trevor. Who am I talking about? No idea? He wrote more than ten books, has several restaurants and became famous as “The Naked Chef. Indeed, I’m talking about James ‘Jamie’ Trevor Oliver. Next to writing books, making TV shows and working in restaurants, he has also his own revolution.

The word revolution comes from the Latin word revolutio, “a turn around”. It’s a fundamental change in power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time. Their results include major changes in culture, economy, and socio-political institutions.

With his food revolution, Jamie wants people all around the world to  stand up for real food. 19th May is called the Food Revolution Day. For more information, have a look at Food Revolution Day.

When I read the description of the Food Revolution Day, I knew it was something for Hot Cuisine de Pierre. Inspired by Kinfolk Magazine and Vrienden van de Smaak, I organized a good old picnic. Not just an average picnic. A original and unknown location, 14 people and dishes of around the world made it a “not so average picnic”. The port of Ghent has surely some nice picnic locations. I went to an old quay where there are some old storage halls, not so far from the Muide, a popular neighborhood in Ghent.

I tried to serve dishes from all around the world. Here are some of the dishes:

– Mint and feta Couscous with lamb and yoghurt

– Tabouleh with coriander pesto and  shrimps marinated in Madras Curry

– Homemade pesto

– Tortilla chips with homemade guacamole

– Ricotta Mousse with red fruit

– Quiche with ricotta and smoked salmon

– Pasta with sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts, rocket salad and truffle oil.

Thanks to the first sun of this Spring, great people and amazing help of some friends (especially thanks to PB, JM, IR and MS) it became an unforgettable picnic. And who knows, maybe I will organize a picnic soon, somewhere else in Ghent.
